RECIPE - CANNABUTTER Cannabutter can be used in any recipe that you would normally use ordinary butter for: cookies, brownies, cake. It can also be spread on bread or toast. Making cannabutter is an excellent way to make the most of your Nirvana grow: you can use the fan leaves, smaller buds and stalks, or previously vaporised bud, and some people have even been successfully making use of male plants in this way. Make sure you grind larger bits in a grinder or food processor though! You will need about 1 lb of butter for every ounce of good quality bud that you use. Pour a decent amount of water in a pan with a thick bottom, enough to make sure it won't boil dry. Bring to a boil, then lower the heat and add the butter. Since THC is not watersoluble, you can add the butter directly into the water. (If you're afraid of burning the bud, it might be better to melt the butter 'au-bain-marie', that is, in a separate bowl big enough to be hung over the pan with the boiling water.) As soon as all the butter has melted, add the goodies (bud, stalks, etc). Simmer over a medium low fire for as long as you can stand (but a minimum of 2-3 hours), stirring frequently. Make sure the water doesn't evaporate completely. Beware: your house will get smelly! When you're done simmering, strain the butter/water/cannabis mixture into a tupperware container through a piece of muslin or cheesecloth, or a really fine sieve. Make sure you get every last bit of butter strained out of the vegetable material. Close the lid of the container and place in the fridge. When the mixture has cooled down completely, the butter will be floating on top of the water, and it will be easily removable with the help of a knife or spatula. The butter can be cut up into smaller portions and frozen. It will keep for several weeks, but will deteriorate if kept too long! Keep in mind that ingesting cannabis works differently from smoking it – you will have to wait longer for it to kick in, and the effects are usually a LOT stronger. Use with caution and at your own risk! GUERILLA GROWING: FIVE DECIDING FACTORS 1. LocationPlan your grow in a location that is as secluded as you can possibly manage, preferably not on your own property. If helicopters are a risk, try a forested area. Look for areas that are almost inaccessible and/or heavily overgrown, so your plants will not be spotted easily. Bear in mind the plants will need a lot of sunlight, though. Make sure you take different routes every time you visit, to prevent creating a visible path. You can even plant several other tall weeds and plants in your area of choice to camouflage your grow. 2. Transport If you germinated the seeds at home, transport the seedlings in something that looks plausible, like a backpack. Carrying a pair of binoculars, a bird-watching book or a similar prop will help your 'disguise'. If you need to transport water, fertilisers, gardening tools or your harvest once it's done, use the same precautions. 3. Protection When growing in the wild, your plants need to be protected from critters as well as snoops or thieves. Rats, deer and other woodland animals can be deterred with chicken wire. It also pays to grow a mould- and pest-resistant strain, such as Kaya Gold or Swiss Cheese. Peeping Toms are always a risk - this is why location is such an important factor. If you're starting to suspect your grow area is being visited by others, try the old trick of affixing very thin, invisible thread between trees on the path to your area, or scattering dry branches to see if they've been snapped underfoot. You could also leave some small change or even an old wallet along the trail, looking as though they fell out of someone's pocket. Most people won't be able to resist picking these up. 4. Water Of course, water is an essential. If it's at all possible, choose a growing location near a natural source of water, so you won't have to go schlepping around jerrycans. 5. Strain We've already mentioned looking for pest-resistant strains. Also check the reviews on the Nirvana Shop to find varieties that can take a bit of abuse. If you're worried about safety, it helps if you've got a strain that's harvest-ready quickly. Try AK-48 or Short Rider. Of course, you can't have any male plants endangering your harvest - either buy feminised seeds or get regulars and keep them inside for the germination and vegetative period so you can sex them before planting them outside. Finally, keep in mind your location: how much sunlight does it provide, will it be a problem if the plants grow very tall? For your convenience, we've compiled a bargaintastic package deal containing everything you need for a successful outdoor grow: the Outdoor Innovation package deal. Order yours quickly and get yourself sorted for the rest of the year! WORLD WIDE WEED FUNNIES Just a couple of short jokes this time! :-)Q: How can you tell when a pot brownie has kicked in? A: When you're too phoned to stone home. Q: How do fish get stoned? A: Seaweed. Q: How do you get a one-armed stoner out of a tree? A: Wave. Finally, we came across this little gem while browsing the web. While we can't take credit for it, we just couldn't resist sharing it with you... Click here to read "The Koala and the Lizard".
